About six weeks ago, Justin and I decided to change the way we eat. We researched several different diets and came up with something that made sense for the both of us. It started out a bit difficult since we both have so many different needs, we face different challenges, and we want different kinds of results. But after talking to extremely active friends, reading different materials on what is “healthy,” and evaluating what we can and are willing to do…we’ve decided NOT to diet any longer. We’ve decided to eat healthy, like the real kind of healthy.
We cut out 99% of processed foods, eat half of the portion sizes that we used to, and cook and eat a lot less different foods for each meal. We even have two meat free days a week that are usually very interesting for one reason or another. Our biggest challenge was trying to find a balance of what works for us and what doesn’t. Like I know I won’t be happy without the incredible cupcakes that Justin makes for me and I am deeply in love with cheese. So we both have a small list of things that are our special treats. We’ve also upped our exercise regimen and have great goals set for the end of summer that I am so, so excited to achieve! 🙂
I still have a lot to learn, but my favorite resource on eating healthy is summed up very simply in: Food Rules, An Eater’s Manual by Michael Pollan and Maira Kalman. Check it out and get a little enlightened!
