I made this dish for the first time as the dessert for our Thanksgiving meal last year. It was such a hit that I’ve been waiting for the perfect time to make it again. It’s not too much work and it tastes absolutely deeeeelicious! If you let it rest for about 30 minutes after it’s done baking, the consistency thickens and it’s just the perfect balance of crisp and ooey goodness. Oh and let’s not forget about the amazing fruit in there… It’s just all SO good! The perfect dessert for fall and winter…
Apple Cranberry Crumble
Yield 6-8 servings
Recipe adapted from Debbie Daly in Florence, Kentucky.
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 3 cups chopped tart apples {We used Gala.}
- 2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup cold butter, cut into small slivers
Instructions
- Combine the sugar and cornstarch in a large bowl.
- Stir in the diced apples and cranberries.
- Transfer it all to a buttered 2-qt. baking dish.
- In another bowl, combine the oats, brown sugar, and flour.
- Mash in the butter pieces using a large spoon until the mixture is crumbly.
- Sprinkle it over the apples and cranberries.
- Bake, uncovered, at 350* for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve warm and topped with ice cream!
